Pick and Mix: A Family Portrait

Personal photographs with varying 'defects'

Do you ever look at your photos discovering a beautiful smile here, a poignant moment there? Perfect memories … if only there wasn’t this unfortunate background, or if only there wasn’t always someone with their eyes closed or looking weird!

Fixing annoying flaws in your not quite picture-perfect snaps can be easier than you think, and turning the little gems from otherwise mediocre pictures into a beautiful collage may tell your story in a much deeper and more truthful way than the limited view of a camera ever will.

In this project the photos shown above were combined to create a family portrait.

Poster created as a collage from different sources through photo editing
A lavishly framed picture places the family in the context of their cultural heritage and aesthetic traditions by using richly layered background details taken from the African dress.

Greeting card created as a collage from different sources through photo editing
A more understated version reproduced as a greeting card to send to friends and relatives.
